CSEB supports better coastal shoreline management to protect forage fish!

Based on the available scientific evidence, the populations of ocean predators, like salmon and Orcas, are in decline or otherwise threatened. One of several contributing factors is the poorly designed development and hard shoreline armouring of coastal shorelines that impacts the forage fish populations upon which these predatory species depend. The University of Victoria Environmental Law Centre and World Wildlife Canada are proposing that a Shoreline Protection Act be adopted by British Columbia, modelled after the Shoreline Management Act in Washington State. The CSEB has sent a letter to the BC Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy to support this proposal. View the CSEB letter here. And see the BC Government’s response here!
