Closure of Experimental Lakes Area Averted!

In 2012, the federal government announced that is was going to close the world-renowned Experimental Lakes Area in northwest Ontario. This research station was famous for its large number of isolated lakes where unique research, including whole-ecosystem experiments and long-term studies, were conducted. The CSEB joined many scientific organizations in petitioning the government to save the ELA. See the CSEB letter, below. Thankfully, the ELA was saved when it was taken over by the International Institute for Sustainable Development in 2014.
